ISLAMABAD: Fresh evidence has emerged of the alleged involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorism in Pakistan, with security sources saying Afghan identity documents were recovered from militants killed in a recent operation in Mastung, Balochistan.
According to the security sources, Afghan nationals were among the militants killed in the operation against members of what Pakistani authorities refer to as Fitnah al-Hindustan.
An identity card issued by Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) was recovered from a militant identified as Zulfiqar alias Abu Umar, the sources said. Another militant, identified as Khalil Ahmed, was found carrying an Afghan tazkira, they added.
The findings have renewed concerns in Islamabad over the alleged use of Afghan territory and networks in attacks inside Pakistan.
Security sources also pointed to an intelligence report from 2025 that, they said, had previously identified an alleged coordination network involving India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Afghan Taliban intelligence.
According to the report cited by the sources, RAW allegedly provided $7.8 million to support sabotage and militant activities in Balochistan.
The report further alleged that militants associated with Fitnah al-Hindustan were provided with weapons and logistical support on the instructions of Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada.
As further evidence of the alleged links, the sources referred to a letter attributed to Akhundzada directing the provision of weapons to Fitnah al-Hindustan through the Taliban administration.
The allegations come amid a broader deterioration in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, with Islamabad repeatedly accusing Afghan territory of being used by militant groups to plan and facilitate attacks inside Pakistan.
Pakistan has also previously accused RAW of supporting militant violence in Balochistan. In May 2025, Pakistan’s military said it had information and evidence linking India to militant activity through groups it described as Fitnah al-Hindustan.
In September 2026, Pakistani security sources cited a classified intelligence document alleging a wider coordination network involving RAW, Afghan intelligence and militant groups including the Balochistan Liberation Army and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
India and the Afghan Taliban administration have previously rejected Pakistani allegations of supporting militant attacks in Pakistan.
The latest claims come as Pakistani authorities continue operations against militant groups in Balochistan and elsewhere in the country.
