US contacts PM Shahbaz amid rising strain

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to discuss the escalating regional situation.

During the call, PM Shahbaz strongly condemned India’s missile and drone attacks on Pakistan, reaffirming Pakistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty and ensure the protection of its citizens at all costs.

Secretary Rubio stated that the United States is closely monitoring developments and remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, in a joint press briefing, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, alongside DG ISPR Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif, firmly rejected India’s allegations of Pakistani strikes on Indian Punjab’s civilian areas.

The officials clarified that while India launched missile and drone attacks on Pakistan’s urban centers and military installations in Lahore, Pakistan exercised restraint and did not target any civilian locations.

DG ISPR denounced India’s claims as fabricated, pointing out that some of India’s own projectiles landed within its territory, likely part of a disinformation strategy.
