Lt General Asim Malik : A glimpse into his career

Govt appoints Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik as NSA

Rawalpindi: Lt General Mohammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Sources confirm that Lt General Asim Malik comes from a distinguished military family. His father, Lt General Ghulam Mohammad—famously known as General GM—also held the rank of Lieutenant General and served as Corps Commander Rawalpindi.

Throughout his career, Lt General Asim Malik has held several key command and instructional roles.

He commanded an infantry brigade in Waziristan and an infantry division in Balochistan.

He also served as Chief Instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College, Quetta.

Additionally, he played a vital role in the Military Operations Directorate.

A graduate of Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies, Lt General Asim Malik was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour during his training.

He is scheduled to officially assume the role of DG ISI on 30 September 2025.

It is noteworthy that Asim Malik has taken charge at a time when tensions on the eastern border with India are running high, following the Pahalgam attack in which 26 tourists lost their lives.

India promptly accused Pakistan of involvement, but Pakistan not only demanded concrete evidence to substantiate these claims, it also extended an offer for a credible, neutral, and transparent investigation.

India, however, categorically rejected the proposal.

The Indian media, the BJP-led government, and allied political forces have excessively sensationalized the incident without presenting any solid proof, fueling a narrative that has dangerously escalated bilateral tensions—bringing both nations to the brink of a potential conflict.

The record clearly indicates that Lt General Mohammad Asim Malik possesses exceptional capability in addressing the current challenges confronting our national security, peace, and stability.

Given his distinguished and inspiring career, there is strong confidence that General Mohammad Asim will effectively navigate the ongoing challenges with his outstanding professionalism, unparalleled expertise, and strategic proficiency.
