Sharp Decline Recorded in Gold Prices in Pakistan Amid Global Market Shifts

KARACHI: A significant downward trend has been witnessed in gold prices in Pakistan following global economic indicators and growing market expectations regarding adjustments in international monetary policies.

According to the All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association, the per-tola price of 24-karat gold registered a major drop of Rs. 12,800, sliding down to Rs. 438,136. Similarly, the price for 10 grams of gold saw a substantial decrease of Rs. 10,973, settling at Rs. 375,631.

This local market contraction was heavily influenced by international trends, where the global bullion market experienced a notable retreat, with gold prices per ounce declining significantly.

Market analysts attribute this sudden correction to shifting global interest rate forecasts and profit-taking by international investors, which directly impacted domestic trading across major commercial hubs including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

Market Overview on Gold Prices in Pakistan in the Past Six Months

Reviewing the trajectory of gold prices in Pakistan over the past six months reveals a pattern of high volatility driven by a mix of local currency fluctuations, international bullion dynamics, and inflationary pressures.

During this half-year period, the domestic bullion market frequently swung between record highs and steep corrections.

In the earlier months of the half-year cycle, local rates hovered near elevated peaks, occasionally crossing critical thresholds due to domestic economic uncertainties and surging safe-haven demand globally.

However, the subsequent months introduced intermittent downward adjustments. While mid-period weeks witnessed robust upward rallies—pushing per-tola rates toward historic peaks—global market corrections, shifting central bank stances, and relative stability in foreign exchange reserves often triggered sudden pullbacks.

Jewellers and financial experts note that these sharp fluctuations highlight how closely tied gold prices in Pakistan remain to international geopolitical events, global dollar indices, and macroeconomic policy shifts, making precious metal investments increasingly sensitive to short-term market corrections.
