NEW YORK: Pakistan-EU partnership will continue to be strengthened, with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to implementing the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan in full.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and European Commission President Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The leaders reviewed bilateral relations across a broad range of areas and expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in high-level contacts and engagement between Pakistan and the European Union.
Pakistan-EU Partnership Gains Momentum Through High-Level Engagement
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of sustained leadership-level engagement to provide greater direction and momentum to the Pakistan-EU partnership.
He also highlighted the significance of the GSP Plus framework for Pakistan’s economic development, job creation and trade with the EU. The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continued engagement with the bloc under the framework.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments. They emphasised the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated his invitation to the presidents of the European Council and European Commission to visit Pakistan.
He also expressed his desire to work closely with European Union leadership to further deepen the mutually beneficial Pakistan-European Union partnership and strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
