BRASILIA: An unusual incident occurred during a football match in Brazil when a player fell into a tunnel and sustained an injury while celebrating a goal.
During a Brazilian Serie A match, Coritiba defender Jacy Maranhão fell into a dark tunnel near the pitch while celebrating. Jacy had given his team a 2-0 lead against Chapecoense in the first half.
Right after scoring, he ran toward the fans with the ball in hand and jumped over an advertising barrier, only to land directly in the tunnel on the other side.

Shortly after he recovered, the referee stopped the match, and a VAR review resulted in Jacy’s goal being ruled offside and disallowed.
The 29-year-old Jacy continued playing until the early minutes of the second half before eventually having to be substituted due to his injury.
Interestingly, about a decade ago, Cameroonian forward Diederrick Joel Tagueu fell into the exact same tunnel after scoring a goal on the same pitch.
However, his goal stood, and he was able to finish the match.
