ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan are facing the imminent expiration of a major financial relief measure, as a quarterly adjustment providing a reduction of 1.99 rupees per unit is set to end this month.
Currently, consumers nationwide are benefiting from a relief package exceeding 67.17 billion rupees under the quarterly adjustment for the January to March 2026 period.
However, this three-month relief period—which has been in effect since June 2026—will conclude in August, paving the way for the April to June 2026 quarterly adjustment to take effect next month.
To implement this upcoming adjustment, power distribution companies (DISCOs) have petitioned NEPRA to transfer a financial burden of over 23 billion rupees onto consumers, translating to an increase of roughly one rupee per unit.
The final determination on the exact scale of the tariff increase will be decided by NEPRA.
