ISLAMABAD : PPP leaders have sharply criticized the Azad Kashmir election process, with senior party figure Raja Pervez Ashraf accusing the PML-N of steering the region toward “further destruction” and questioning the credibility of the upcoming polls.
Addressing the media, Ashraf alleged that the Election Commission is operating under the influence of the opposing party and held the Chief Election Commissioner responsible for the deteriorating situation. “An assembly formed under such circumstances cannot resolve the people’s problems,” he asserted.
Ashraf went on to state that without transparency, the elections would not be accepted by anyone. Sharing his personal view, he suggested that the PPP should reject the results and boycott the third phase, though he clarified that the final decision rests with the party’s central leadership.
Echoing similar sentiments, PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari declared that the elections are “non-transparent and rigged,” adding that the party will not accept the outcome under any circumstances.
PPP leader Nadeem Afzal Chan described the process as an “ultra Form 47” election, pointing to suspicious conduct by the Azad Kashmir Election Commission. Meanwhile, Qamar Zaman Kaira questioned the legitimacy of any government formed through such polls, stating bluntly: “This election in Azad Kashmir has been snatched from us.”
The remarks signal a deepening political crisis ahead of the vote, with the PPP now openly weighing a boycott.
