ISLAMABAD: August has brought good news of holidays for employees of both government and private institutions as well as students in Pakistan.
Carrying the spirit of Independence Day, this month will offer many individuals more rest than usual due to public and weekend holidays, while several employees are likely to enjoy long weekends.
According to the 2026 calendar, two federal public holidays are expected in August.
Additionally, with five weeks in the month, Saturdays and Sundays will each occur five times, bringing the number of weekend holidays up to 10.
In government and private institutions where both Saturday and Sunday are off, employees can enjoy a total of 12 holidays.
On the other hand, in offices where only Sunday is a holiday, employees are likely to get 7 days off, combining 5 Sundays and 2 public holidays.
The most important and well-known holiday of August will be Independence Day on August 14, which falls on a Friday this year.
Following this, with the usual Saturday and Sunday holidays, multiple employees and students will get 3 consecutive days of holidays from August 14 to 16, creating a long weekend.
Furthermore, this year the second general holiday in August will be on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
According to current lunar calculations, this holiday is expected on August 25, though it is subject to change due to Islamic month dates depending on moon sighting.
If the 1st of Rabi-ul-Awwal falls on August 15, then the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal will be on August 26, resulting in the Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) holiday falling on a Wednesday, although its final date will be announced after a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, following which the federal government will issue an official public holiday notification.
