Coal Mine Explosion in Quetta Traps Miners

QUETTA: An explosion caused by methane gas occurred in a local coal mine in the Spen Karez area near Sorrange, Quetta.

According to mine owners, 42 miners were trapped inside at the time of the blast.

By Thursday evening, six bodies had been recovered, while a rescue operation involving PDMA, mines rescue, and other teams was ongoing to save the remaining 36 individuals.

Officials noted that the rescue efforts faced significant difficulties due to high gas emissions and a lack of specialized equipment.

Balochistan’s Provincial Minister for Mines and Minerals, Mir Shoaib Nosherwani, stated that operations began immediately following the incident under the directives of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, with relevant authorities utilizing all available resources and working to clear debris and restore ventilation to reach the trapped workers.
