PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s security forces foiled a suicide vehicle bomb attack on a checkpoint in the South Waziristan Lower district on Saturday, killing three militants associated with Fint al Khawarij, security officials said.
The attack targeted the Gangi Khel checkpoint, located between Wana and Azam Warsak in Lower South Waziristan.
Officials said the attackers attempted to ram an explosives-laden vehicle into the checkpoint.
Security forces responded timely and opened fire, killing three suspected militants before they could carry out the attack.
Civilians present at the checkpoint escaped unharmed because of the swift response by security personnel, officials said.
Following the attack, security forces sealed off the area and launched a clearance operation to search for any remaining militants or accomplices.
The military said operations against militant groups would continue until terrorism is eliminated and lasting peace is restored in the region.
Yesterday, the ISPR, Pakistan Army media affairs wing, said in a statment that security forces successfully thwarted a cowardly terrorist attack carried out by Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij on a joint police check post in the Tank District during the night of 23 and 24 July 2026.
In the attack, 15 persons inlcuding 12 soldiers, two policemen and a government official were martyred in the attack while 12 Khawarij were sent to hell in the counterterrorism operation, the statement read.
