Gilgit-Baltistan Passes Resolution for Provincial Status

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution demanding provisional provincial status for the region.

Jointly presented by the Chief Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), the resolution calls for providing the region with representation in Pakistan’s National Assembly and Senate, as well as in federal financial institutions.

The text emphasizes that the region should be integrated as a provisional constitutional province through constitutional amendments—without compromising the Kashmir issue—and advocates for the region’s fair share of national resources, including the establishment of an NFC award and necessary federal legal and administrative reforms.
