Balochistan on High Alert for Second Monsoon Spell

QUETTA: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert for the second monsoon spell in Balochistan, forecasting a new wave of heavy rainfall expected to last from July 11 to July 12.

According to the PMD, torrential rains are expected in Zhob, Sherani, Duki, Kohlu, and Harnai. Meanwhile, thunder and heavy showers are predicted for Loralai, Barkhan, Musakhel, Dera Bugti, and Khuzdar.

The Met Office has warned that intense downpours could trigger flash floods in local rivers and streams, as well as landsliding in mountainous terrains.

In response, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed the local administrations of the vulnerable districts to remain on high alert.

Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during this period.

The PDMA has also advised the public to stay away from dilapidated buildings, and strongly cautioned against visiting picnic spots, riverbeds, and seasonal water channels during the rains.
