Controversial Podcaster Rehan Tariq Arrested

Controversial Podcaster Rehan Tariq Arrested

LAHORE: Self-proclaimed journalist Rehan Tariq, widely criticized for promoting a culture of sensationalism, disrespect, and sectarian hatred under the guise of media freedom, has been apprehended by law enforcement.

The arrest was executed at the Lahore airport by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) upon his arrival.

The development follows an intense public and religious backlash over a controversial podcast hosted by Tariq alongside religious scholar Allama Syed Jawad Naqvi.

Released around the sensitive period of Muharram-ul-Haram, the podcast featured deliberately provocative and controversial questions regarding sacred religious personalities.

Tariq, who already faced severe public condemnation for his aggressive tone, mocking demeanor, and unethical content, was accused of intentionally stoking sectarian tensions and wounding the religious sentiments of the public.

Following the widespread outrage and demands for his arrest from various religious circles, Tariq fled to London, where he released a video message attempting to apologize.

However, both religious leaders and the public rejected his apology as a mere facade given the gravity of the offense.

Recognizing the severity of the agitation and the potential threat to sectarian harmony, federal investigators intercepted and detained Tariq immediately after he landed back in Pakistan to face formal legal proceedings.
