Flash Floods in Chitral Strand Hundreds, Over 200 Rescued

CHITRAL: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 workers evacuated over 200 stranded passengers in Chitral flash floods amid monsoon rains in Lower Chitral district, emergency officials said on Wednesday.

Rescue 1122 said flash floods and debris flows cut off the Drosh-Ashirat Road at several locations, leaving multiple passenger vehicles stranded.

Emergency responders launched a rescue operation immediately after receiving reports of the incident. Teams stationed at the Sheshi Koh and Bregnesar watch points were the first to reach the affected areas, while additional personnel were dispatched from the district headquarters.

Rescue workers evacuated more than 200 passengers to safer locations during the operation.

Teams carried out rescue efforts for nearly six hours in the affected areas of Kalkatak, Kaldam Gol, Sawir and Ashirat. They also recovered four passenger vehicles trapped in debris and ensured the safe evacuation of everyone on board.

The operation involved 20 Rescue 1122 personnel, three ambulances and a disaster response vehicle. Rescue officials coordinated with the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the district administration to restore the road and ensure public safety.

Rescue 1122 said no deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered flash floods and landslides in several parts of northern Pakistan in recent days, disrupting transport and increasing the risk of further flooding.
