KARACHI: A schoolteacher was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in what police suspect was a targeted killing in Karachi’s Surjani Town area on Tuesday.
Police said the victim, identified as Mudassar Ali, lived near Degree College in Surjani Town and worked as a schoolteacher. According to his family, he left home in the morning to go to school.
Investigators said the victim also engaged in other work besides teaching.
Police said the attackers had apparently lain in wait for him. As soon as he stepped out of his house, they opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene.
The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to the neck and died on the spot, police said.
Preliminary evidence suggests the attack was a case of targeted killing, police added. Authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the motive and identify the assailants.
Police also said the victim’s family was not cooperating fully with investigators. According to officials, the family insisted on taking the body without a post-mortem examination, although legal procedures were still underway.
