ISLAMABAD: Pakistan observed the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed, recipient of the Nishan-e-Haider, with ceremonies held to pay tribute to his courage, sacrifice, and constant commitment to the defence of the country.
In this regard, Captain Colonel Sher Khan embraced martyrdom on July 5, 1999, while fighting during the Kargil conflict. On the occasion of his anniversary, the nation remembered his bravery and honoured the sacrifices made by the country’s martyrs in safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In this sense, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the martyr’s mausoleum during the morning. Floral tributes were placed at the grave, while a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honour in recognition of his exceptional services and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed, describing his sacrifice as a shining chapter in Pakistan’s military history.
The prime minister said the martyr’s unmatched courage and devotion to duty indicated the highest traditions of patriotism, loyalty, and bravery.
He said the supreme sacrifice of Captain Colonel Sher Khan continues to inspire generations of Pakistanis and serves as a reminder that the country’s freedom and sovereignty have been secured through the sacrifices of its brave sons.
The prime minister added that the nation remains united in standing alongside its armed forces against both external and internal challenges.
