NEW YORK: Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has left the sports world in awe after he was reportedly seen reciting “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah) right before scoring a crucial penalty goal in a World Cup knockout match against Croatia.
According to sources, keen-eyed fans and media noticed Ronaldo’s lips moving to utter the Islamic phrase just seconds before taking the high-stakes penalty shot.
His subsequent strike sailed directly into the back of the net, marking his first goal of the tournament’s knockout stage.
Notably, this is not the first time the Al-Nassr star has drawn attention for this gesture; he was previously spotted reciting “Bismillah” before a penalty kick while playing in the Saudi Pro League.
In other World Cup updates, defending champions Argentina are scheduled to face Cape Verde in their match later tonight.
