WASHINGTON: The United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a rendering of a new limited-edition American passport, branded as the “Patriot Passport,” to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence.
The special edition passport is expected to be released as part of the country’s celebrations marking the historic milestone.
In this regard, President Trump described the passport with the slogan, “Welcome, but be good!” The mock-up features a stern portrait of the president leaning on his desk alongside his signature, while the background displays the text of the US Declaration of Independence.
The portrait appears to be based on an official image captured by White House photographer Daniel Torok.
The opposite page of the passport showcases a historic painting illustrating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, accompanied by the inscription, “United States of America 250,” mentioning the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial celebrations.
The White House also shared the passport design on social media, referring to it as the “Patriot Passport.”
However, the US State Department, which had earlier announced plans to issue a commemorative passport featuring custom artwork beginning July 6, has not yet provided additional details regarding the newly unveiled design.
In this sense, as per the State Department who spoke in April, the Trump-themed commemorative passports will initially be available only through in-person appointments in Washington and will be offered for a limited period, subject to availability.
The unveiling indicates President Trump’s broader efforts to leave a distinctive mark on federal institutions during his administration. In recent months, banners featuring the president have appeared outside several government buildings, while the US Treasury Department has announced plans for Trump’s signature to appear on the one-dollar bill.
The initiative is expected to draw significant public attention and generate debate as the United States prepares to celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
