ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday praised Pakistan’s security forces for what he described as successful operations against militants in Balochistan.
In a statement, Shehbaz Sharif said security forces had killed eight militants belonging to what Pakistan refers to as “Fitna al-Hindustan,” a term used by the government for militant groups it alleges are backed by India.
He said the operations had foiled the militants’ plans and vowed to continue counterterrorism operations until they reached their “logical conclusion.”
The prime minister said the state’s campaign against terrorism would continue uninterrupted until all forms of militancy, including what he called “Fitna al-Hindustan,” were eliminated.
Sharif paid tribute to the security forces for their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He said the entire nation stood firmly behind its armed forces.
He also alleged that foreign elements were involved in terrorism against Pakistan and reiterated that the country remained committed to promoting peace at the regional and international levels.
The prime minister vowed to defeat those seeking to undermine Pakistan’s peace and said the government would continue taking all necessary measures to maintain security and stability.
Earlier, the military said security forces had killed eight suspected militants during intelligence-based operations in the Kharan and Mastung districts of Balochistan.
According to the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), three militants were killed and several others wounded during an operation in Kharan.
In a separate operation in Mastung, security forces killed five militants, including a suspected suicide bomber, after acting on intelligence about an imminent attack, the ISPR said.
