CM Balochistan Orders Probe Into Quetta Businessman's Killing

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Saturday took notice of the killing of prominent businessman and restaurateur Muhammad Hashim Norzai and ordered an investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

Shahid Rind, the chief minister’s spokesperson, said Bugti had sought a report from the provincial inspector general of police and ordered that the case be handed over to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

The SIU’s superintendent of police will lead the investigation to ensure a transparent and effective inquiry, Rind said.

Bugti expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and vowed to bring those responsible to justice. He said the government would ensure that the perpetrators faced the full force of the law.

Rind said provincial lawmaker Malik Naeem Bazai and Quetta Deputy Commissioner were with the victim’s family and protesters. He added that the provincial government remained in constant contact with them.

He described the killing as a tragic incident and pledged the swift arrest of those involved.

Earlier on Saturday, unknown gunmen shot dead Muhammad Hashim Norzai, the owner of the well-known Kabul Jan Restaurant, in Quetta.
