Field Marshal’s honesty won US-Iran trust during peace talks: Naqvi

Mohsin Naqvi Credits Intelligence, Drone Defence System for ‘Marka-e-Haq’ Success

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has lauded Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s pivotal role in facilitating the Iran-US ceasefire agreement, stating that the  Chief of Defence Force CDF reputation for truthfulness earned him complete trust from both nations.

Addressing a special meeting of the Peace Message Committee, Naqvi revealed that the Field Marshal spoke with such directness to both sides that “no one can imagine.”

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir speaks the truth, which is why America and Iran trusted him fully for the negotiations,” Naqvi said. “The Field Marshal was the only person whom each side trusted, which is why Pakistan made efforts for peace.”

Naqvi emphasized that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif provided leadership while Field Marshal Munir “entered the field as a captain” in the peace process.

“The Field Marshal led this process as a captain, played a historic role and brought about a ceasefire in two big countries,” Naqvi stated. “The credit for this will go to the captain, while the Prime Minister as a leader gave the final shape to everything.”

The Interior Minister revealed that the military chief’s straightforward approach was instrumental in the negotiations. “The Field Marshal also spoke to both sides in such a tough manner that no one could imagine. Whoever spoke wrongly was told, ‘You said wrong,’ because he knew that this person was straightforward and truthful.”

During the meeting, Naqvi emphasized the important role of religious scholars in maintaining peace and order across Pakistan.

“The Ulema have an important role in maintaining peace and order,” he said. “This forum should send a message of unity to the entire country. The role of the National Peace Message Committee is commendable.”

He called for the Peace Message Committee to be activated at the district level, stressing that “Ulema can play an important role in keeping the nation united.”

 

Naqvi underscored the collective responsibility in combating terrorism, stating, “We all have to unite to eliminate terrorism. The support of Ulema is important in the war against terrorism.”

 

Regarding the upcoming month of Muharram, the Interior Minister stressed that maintaining peace and order is a shared responsibility.

“Maintaining peace and order during Muharram is the joint responsibility of everyone,” Naqvi said. “There is safety in avoiding sectarianism.”

The United States, Iran, and all allies had confidence in Field Marshal Asim Munir’s integrity, Naqvi concluded, praising Pakistan’s successful diplomatic efforts in brokering peace between the two nations.
