WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that planned military attacks against Iran have been called off, following what he described as high-level talks that have reached final approval.
In a statement released on his Truth Social platform, Trump said all parties — including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Egypt — have agreed on the points and details of the agreement “in principle and in detail.”
“Talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran have reached the highest level and have been approved, after which I, as president, decided to call off the attacks,” Trump said.
He added that a naval blockade will remain in full force until the final agreement is signed. The time and place of the signing will be announced soon.
This marks a dramatic reversal from Trump’s earlier statement, in which he had said the U.S. would attack Iran “very hard tonight” and would soon seize Iran’s oil and gas facilities.
During a press conference, Trump acknowledged Pakistan’s role in brokering the peace deal, stating that Pakistan convinced him to halt the strikes. “Pakistan is playing an excellent role in the Iran-U.S. peace deal,” Trump said, while hailing Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, as a “great general.”
