WASHINGTON, D.C. : Democratic lawmakers sharply condemned a proposed deal put forward by the Trump administration, with one congressman calling it a humiliating retreat that squanders billions and fails to achieve even basic strategic goals.
The agreement, whose full details have not been publicly released, reportedly aims to ease tensions in the Persian Gulf. But critics on Capitol Hill say it offers major concessions to the Iranian regime with little to show in return.
“This is a document of kneeling before the Iranian Supreme Leader,” said Democratic Congressman Seth Moulton of Massachusetts. “We’ve already spent $100 billion, and 14 American soldiers have been killed. And for what?”
Moulton argued that the deal’s central achievement — reopening the Strait of Hormuz — is no victory at all. “The deal will only open the Strait of Hormuz,” he said. “Hormuz was already open before the stupid war. What kind of victory is this?”
Other Democratic members joined in calling the proposed terms “terrible,” warning that the agreement undermines U.S. credibility and rewards Iranian aggression. The White House has not yet issued a formal response to the criticism.
