“Let the oil flow”: Trump declares Iran deal complete, lifts naval blockade

Trump Tempers Expectations on Iran Peace Deal

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump announced Sunday that a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete, ordering the immediate removal of the United States naval blockade and the toll‑free reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow.”

The announcement ends weeks of heightened military tension that had seen the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed, disrupting nearly a fifth of global oil supplies and sending energy prices soaring. The U.S. naval blockade, imposed to curb Iranian oil exports and pressure Tehran over its nuclear program, will now be dismantled.

The breakthrough followed intense mediation led by Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed in a separate statement on X (formerly Twitter) that a formal ceasefire and peace framework has been finalized. According to Sharif, the deal includes not only the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and cessation of U.S.-Iran naval hostilities, but also “the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

A signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. Prime Minister Sharif added that mediators will hold a series of technical meetings this week to prepare for the formal ratification. The Pakistani leader described the agreement as “a historic step toward regional stability.”

While Iranian officials had not yet issued an official response at the time of this report, senior U.S. officials confirmed that the deal also addresses Iran’s nuclear program, with President Trump likening the framework to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, calling it “A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON!”
