No Deal Signing Today, IRGC Dismisses Trump Claim as Birthday Publicity

Trump Cancels Tonight's Planned Strikes on Iran

TEHRAN: The Iranian military has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s assertion that a peace agreement would be signed with Iran on Sunday, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stating that Tehran will not finalize any deal on this date.

In a statement, the Revolutionary Guard Corps said Iranian negotiators have made clear that they will not sign an agreement on June 14. The IRGC further alleged that President Trump intentionally chose the date because it is his birthday, accusing him of turning the diplomatic process into a “personal publicity program” by attaching symbolic importance to the occasion.

Earlier on Sunday, Trump had announced that a peace agreement with Iran would be signed later in the day. He claimed that once signed, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened for all nations. “When there is calm, we will go and get the remaining nuclear material at the appropriate time,” Trump said.

The US president also expressed hope that “this whole process will be completed quickly and easily,” adding that the United States looks forward to working with Iran and the entire Middle East in the future.

There was no immediate comment from the White House on the IRGC’s rejection. Tensions remain high over nuclear issues and navigation rights in the strategic w

aterway.
