US sends strong message to India regarding Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON: The United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that any violation of U.S. directives or attempts to challenge restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz will not be tolerated, focusing on the importance of maintaining maritime security in one of the world’s most strategically significant waterways.

In this regard, Rubio held a telephone conversation with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss the evolving situation in the Strait of Hormuz and broader concerns related to regional maritime security.

Rubio stressed that commercial vessels operating in the area must fully comply with instructions issued by U.S. forces. He stated that any breach of U.S. directives or efforts to undermine maritime operations in the strait would be met with a firm response.

The US Secretary of State reasserted Washington’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region. He noted that American military forces would continue their efforts to safeguard international shipping routes and maintain maritime security amid growing regional challenges.

Rubio also addressed concerns regarding the alleged illegal transportation of Iranian oil, stating that such activities would not be accepted and could prompt strong action from the United States.

The Rubio’s statements come at a time when tensions in the Gulf region remain high and concerns over energy security and freedom of navigation continue to attract international attention.

Meanwhile, Indian sources reported that New Delhi had previously lodged a formal protest with a senior U.S. diplomat following an alleged American action involving an oil tanker.

The development mentioned the sensitivity of maritime issues in the region and their potential impact on international relations.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of international attention due to its strategic importance for global oil transportation and maritime trade, making developments in the area closely watched by governments and markets worldwide.
