Police Restore Control in Mirpur, 15 Protesters Arrested

MIRPUR: Police dispersed protesters and arrested 15 people in various areas of Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, officials said. The situation was brought under full control.

According to reports, groups of people began gathering at five different locations in Islamgarh and Chakswari. Some individuals in the groups were carrying stones, glass bottles, sticks and batons.

The presence of the groups created tension in the area. Movement of the public was disrupted and commuters faced difficulties.

Police were called in after the situation escalated. Officers reached the sites and attempted to disperse the crowds in accordance with the law.

All gatherings were dispersed after sustained and effective action by police. The situation was brought under control, officials said.

Police confirmed that 15 individuals were taken into custody. They were shifted for further investigation.

Authorities said inquiries were underway to determine the cause of the gatherings and whether any organised planning was involved.

Two weapons were also recovered from the scene and taken into custody by police.

Traffic was restored after the operation. Roads were reopened for public movement.

Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any further gatherings and to maintain law and order.

The administration said full peace was being maintained and the situation was under continuous monitoring.

Separately, the banned Joint Awami Action Committee’s sit-ins were ended peacefully without further loss of life or escalation, officials said.
