TEHRAN: Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has stated that the primary objective of any negotiations with the United States is to bring an end to ongoing hostilities and establish lasting regional security, rather than moving toward normalisation of relations between Tehran and Washington.
In this regard, Ghalibaf emphasised that discussions with the United States should be viewed through a limited and strategic lens focused on reducing tensions and preventing further conflict.
He clarified that Iran does not see the purpose of such engagement as restoring full diplomatic normalcy with Washington.
The priority remains achieving stability in the region and ensuring that any diplomatic process contributes to ending military confrontation and long-standing disputes.
He stressed that Iran’s approach is guided by national interests and regional security concerns.
The comments come amid continued uncertainty surrounding Iran–US relations, which have remained strained for years due to political differences, sanctions, and security issues across the Middle East.
No further details were provided regarding possible timelines or formats for any future talks.
