Trump claims US-Iran peace deal ‘imminent’

WASHINGTON : US President Donald Trump has described ongoing talks with Iran as moving in a “positive direction,” expressing hope for tangible progress by the end of next week. However, he simultaneously struck a confrontational tone, vowing that the United States would destroy Iran’s enriched uranium by seizing it.

Speaking to reporters, President Trump said, “Talks with Iran are going well,” and added that he anticipates possible breakthroughs as early as next week.

In the same remarks, the President praised the performance of US B-2 bombers, stating they have “done a good job.” He also outlined a stark policy on Iran’s nuclear material: “We will destroy Iran’s uranium by acquiring it,” Trump said, though he did not provide specific operational details.

In an unexpected claim, Trump asserted that the United States had contacted Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, for the first time and that the group was “ready to talk.” The statement could mark a major shift in US policy, as Hezbollah is currently designated a terrorist organization by Washington. There was no immediate confirmation or comment from Hezbollah or other officials.

The President also reaffirmed the US-Israel alliance, calling Israel an “important partner” that requires American cooperation. His remarks come amid heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and regional proxy conflicts.
