Nepra Grants Power Consumers Rs1.98 Per Unit Tariff Relief

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s power regulator has approved a reduction in the country’s base electricity tariff, providing relief to consumers despite a simultaneous increase in fuel adjustment charges.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a cut of Rs1.98 per unit under the quarterly tariff adjustment for the first quarter of 2026.

However, the regulator also approved an increase of Rs1.19 per unit under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) mechanism for April 2026.

As a result, electricity consumers will receive a net relief of about 80 paisas per unit in their June electricity bills.

According to NEPRA, the tariff reduction is expected to provide more than Rs67 billion in relief to consumers nationwide.

The reduction will remain in effect for three months and will apply to electricity bills issued in June, July and August.

NEPRA said the revised tariff will benefit consumers across Pakistan, including customers of K-Electric. Lifeline consumers, however, are excluded from the adjustment.

Separately, the regulator approved the Rs1.19-per-unit increase in electricity prices under the April fuel price adjustment. The increase will apply to consumers nationwide, including those in Karachi, and will be reflected in June bills.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested an increase of Rs1.73 per unit under the April fuel cost adjustment.

After reviewing the submitted data and calculations, NEPRA approved a lower increase of Rs1.19 per unit, according to an official notification.
