ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has officially announced a power tariff hike, making electricity dearer by 52 paisa per unit under the framework of NEPRA Power Tariff Increase 2026.
According to details, this upward revision will impose an additional financial burden of Rs 12.67 billion on electricity consumers nationwide.
Consumers will be required to make these extra payments during the billing months of September, October, and November.
The notification issued by NEPRA confirms that the tariff adjustment applies to consumers across the country, including those serviced by K-Electric, though lifeline consumers have been granted an exemption from this price hike under the terms of NEPRA Power Tariff Increase 2026.

This relentless surge has severely strained household budgets and industrial competitiveness alike.
Persistent structural inefficiencies, capacity payments to independent power producers (IPPs), and transmission losses have continuously forced regulators to pass the financial weight downstream to end-users.
While successive policy interventions have attempted tariff rationalization, structural reforms, and rooftop solar adoption incentives, the overall baseline for electricity has nearly doubled compared to early 2020 levels.
