ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is actively working through diplomatic channels to reduce rising tensions between the United States and Iran and promote peace in the region, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said during the weekly briefing that Pakistan has consistently maintained that dialogue and diplomacy, not conflict, are the only way to resolve disputes.
He said Pakistan’s top leadership has held extensive contacts with China, the United Kingdom, the European Union and other key international partners in recent weeks. These engagements focused on regional peace, global cooperation and shared challenges.
The spokesperson said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited China from May 23 to 26, where he held detailed discussions with Chinese leadership on bilateral ties and regional issues.
He added that the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister attended a high-level United Nations forum after returning from China. There, he met representatives from several countries, including Portugal, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba and Indonesia. Talks focused on global governance reforms and collective solutions to international challenges.
Andrabi said Pakistani officials also held important contacts with US counterparts, including meetings with the US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser. Discussions covered bilateral relations, counterterrorism cooperation and broader engagement in multiple sectors.
He said US leadership also discussed regional peace efforts, including steps aimed at de-escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
The spokesperson said Pakistan has made sincere diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington and continues to work with friendly countries to support peaceful solutions.
He stressed that regional stability is a shared responsibility and all sides should show restraint and return to dialogue.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan also held recent telephonic contacts with officials from Egypt, Vietnam, Iran and the European Union to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.
It added that the eighth round of Pakistan–EU Strategic Dialogue was held recently. Both sides reviewed progress in cooperation and issued a joint statement.
The statement reaffirmed commitment to strengthening political dialogue and expanding cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union.
The Foreign Office said the dialogue was co-chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs. It described the mechanism as an important platform for structured high-level engagement.
The two sides also discussed regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East.
A joint statement by several regional foreign ministers condemned violations of the sanctity of religious sites, including Al-Aqsa Mosque and occupied East Jerusalem. It rejected attempts to alter the historical, legal and demographic status of holy places.
The statement also condemned Israeli settler provocations and reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
