4 Dead, 90 Trapped in China’s Coal Mine Accident

CHANGZHI : Four people have been confirmed dead, and 90 others remain trapped underground after carbon monoxide levels exceeded safety limits at a coal mine in Changzhi city, North China’s Shanxi province, authorities said Saturday.

 

The accident occurred at 9:43 pm on Friday in the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County. A total of 247 workers were underground at the time of the incident.

 

By 3:33 am on Saturday, rescue teams had brought 157 people to the surface. Among them, four were confirmed dead. According to local officials, 90 people remain trapped underground, and 16 of those are in critical condition.

 

Intensive rescue efforts are ongoing, with emergency crews working to reach the remaining workers and stabilize conditions inside the mine.
