MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has nominated Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani as the party’s candidate for prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
Gilani will file his nomination papers on behalf of the PML-N for the election of the AJK prime minister.
PML-N Central Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb confirmed Gilani’s nomination. She said the decision was taken with the approval of Nawaz Sharif.
According to party sources, Gilani will submit his nomination papers for the leadership election. The AJK Legislative Assembly will then proceed with the election of the leader of the house.
The nomination comes as the PML-N moves to finalise its candidate for the top political office in AJK.
If elected, Gilani will lead the AJK government and assume responsibility for running the region’s administration and representing its political interests.
