ISLAMABAD: The federal government has taken notice of alleged restrictions on wheat supplies and directed that all barriers hindering the inter-provincial movement of wheat and flour from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa be removed.
According to details, the Ministry of National Food Security has instructed authorities to ensure the smooth supply of wheat and flour to KP. The ministry has also shared a WhatsApp number for reporting any obstruction in the supply chain.
Last week, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government formally wrote to the federal government, urging immediate intervention to ensure uninterrupted transport of wheat and flour from Punjab. Provincial officials warned that any disruption in supply could trigger a serious food security situation in the province.
Earlier on Monday, KP Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi held a consultative meeting at the KP Assembly. They strongly criticised the federal and Punjab governments over the suspension of wheat supplies and cuts in gas supply to the CNG sector.
They alleged that discriminatory and unconstitutional policies were being pursued against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They stressed that constitutional rights must be upheld, adding that if the province contributes electricity, gas and minerals to the country, it must also receive its due share under the Constitution.
