PMD Forecasts Rain in Upper Regions, Heatwave in South

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain and hailstorms across the country’s upper regions over the next few days, while warning of a severe heatwave in southern areas.

According to the PMD, rain and hailstorms are expected in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad from today until May 23.

Similar weather conditions are also anticipated in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning that temperatures are likely to soar in Sindh, Southern Punjab, and Eastern Balochistan starting May 19, potentially triggering severe heatwave conditions.

The NDMA states that temperatures in some areas could surpass 42°C between May 19 and May 26, raising concerns over heat-related health issues.

An NDMA spokesperson has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay well-hydrated, and maintain proper fluid and electrolyte balance.

Furthermore, the authority cautioned that the rising temperatures could accelerate glacier melting, increasing the risk of landslides in northern regions.
