ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received what officials described as a major diplomatic boost after a senior US lawmaker praised Islamabad’s role in facilitating sensitive Iran–US peace talks, according to a statement and correspondence cited in local reports.
US Congressman and Co-Chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus Jack Bergman praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts in ongoing Iran–United States negotiations. He described the role as “statesmanlike leadership” and a strong example of strategic diplomacy.
Bergman sent a formal letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Field Marshal Asim Munir, appreciating Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and thanking Islamabad for its engagement.
In the letter, Bergman said Pakistan played a constructive role in bringing both sides closer to dialogue. He said Pakistan used its unique geopolitical position to support engagement between Washington and Tehran.
He also highlighted the importance of long-term US–Pakistan relations. He said cooperation between the two countries remained strategically significant.
Bergman noted that US President Donald Trump had adopted an effective stance on Iran-related issues, according to his assessment. He said past US administrations failed to achieve similar progress.
He said Pakistan’s willingness to facilitate dialogue reflected effective statecraft. He added that Washington had acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive role publicly.
Bergman expressed his intention to visit Pakistan soon and said he looked forward to strengthening bilateral ties further.
Officials and political observers in Islamabad described the development as a positive diplomatic signal. They said Pakistan’s engagement with both Iran and the United States underscored its relevance in regional diplomacy.
