LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently addressed a ceremony marking the distribution of 720 free flats to laborers, describing it as a historic day where workers finally secured their own roofs and personal homes.
She emphasized that owning a home is a fundamental dream for every individual, noting that the immense burden of housing anxiety vanishes once a person becomes a homeowner.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that in the current era of high inflation, common citizens struggle just to meet daily expenses, making the construction of a house an almost impossible challenge.
Regardless of financial status, she stated that a personal home provides essential security for children and represents the successful culmination of a lifetime of hard work.
Reflecting on the legacy of the program, Maryam Nawaz mentioned that the welfare initiatives started by Nawaz Sharif in the Labor Department forty years ago have now grown into a vast support system.
She shared that Nawaz Sharif expressed great joy over 720 families receiving their keys.
Highlighting the plight of low-wage earners, the Chief Minister pointed out that a laborer earning 40,000 rupees a month often faces the agonizing choice between paying rent or providing for their children’s basic needs.
To alleviate this, the government is providing these homes free of charge to ensure a prosperous life for the working class.
The Chief Minister further announced that while 720 families received homes today, another 500 units are ready in Taxila, with a target to facilitate over 5,000 workers within the next three years.
Additionally, the government plans to provide three-marla plots and easy loans for house construction.
She noted that under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme, one lakh houses have been completed in just over a year, with 65,000 more under construction and a long-term goal of five lakh homes.
Beyond housing, she highlighted that 1.5 million workers have been issued Ration Cards worth 40 billion rupees to provide monthly financial assistance.
She concluded by reaffirming that the core purpose of government is to create ease in the lives of the people, praying for the strength to serve every underprivileged household.
