TEHRAN : The head of Iran’s National Security Council, Ebrahim Azizi, has warned that any US intervention in the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire.
Reacting to President Donald Trump’s recent statement on the matter, Azizi said that the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf will not be managed by what he called Trump’s “deceptive statements.”
“There is no room for rhetoric in the matters of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf,” Azizi added, signaling Tehran’s firm opposition to any American military or naval action in the strategic waterway.
The warning comes shortly after the US military announced it would begin an assistance plan to help commercial ships move through the strait. Tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high despite ongoing back-channel diplomatic efforts.
The US military announced that American forces will begin an assistance plan today to restore freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, the military said the mission, directed by the US President, will assist commercial ships seeking freedom of movement through the strategic waterway.
No further details about the scope or duration of the operation were immediately released. The announcement comes amid ongoing regional tensions and diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran.
