Actress Reem Sheikh: Won’t marry a non-Muslim

MUMBAI: Indian television actress Reem Sheikh, known for her role in the popular show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, has made her stance on interfaith marriage unequivocally clear. In a recent podcast appearance, the young star stated that she does not envisage marrying a non-Muslim, emphasizing that spiritual harmony with her life partner is non-negotiable.

When asked whether she would accept a relationship if she fell in love with someone from another religion, Sheikh responded bluntly, ruling out the possibility entirely. She attributed her position to the deep importance she places on her religious identity.

“I pray five times a day and am now also observing fasts,” the actress explained. “It will be difficult for me to live with someone who is not in harmony with my faith.”

Sheikh revealed that in every difficult stage of her life, she turns first to Allah, and therefore wants her life partner to share the same foundational belief. “Spiritual harmony is very important for me in the decision to get married,” she added.

Interestingly, Sheikh comes from a diverse religious background. Her mother is Hindu while her father is Muslim. Despite growing up witnessing and understanding two different religions up close, the actress says she is making a serious effort to adopt Islamic teachings in her life.

Sheikh described her current stance as a reflection of her personal experiences and intellectual journey, shaped by her family background but ultimately guided by her own convictions.
