Iran Allows Pakistani Diesel Ship Carrying 80 Million Litres Through Hormuz

KARACHI : A Pakistani ship carrying 80 million litres of diesel has crossed the strategic Strait of Hormuz and entered the Gulf of Oman, following special permission from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, according to official sources.

The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) confirmed that another Pakistani vessel had earlier transited the strait without incident. The latest ship, however, required explicit authorisation from the Iranian military force before navigating the highly sensitive waterway.

“The vessel has now entered the Gulf of Oman after successfully crossing the Strait of Hormuz,” a PNSC official told reporters, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Iranian authorities granted special passage clearance for this particular ship.”

The tanker is expected to dock at Karachi port within two to three days, the sources added. Onboard are 80 million litres of diesel, a significant consignment aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s fuel supplies.

The Strait of Hormuz, situated between Iran and Oman, is a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas shipments. Tensions have periodically flared in the region, with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards asserting firm control over vessels transiting nearby waters.

Neither the Iranian Revolutionary Guards nor Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs has issued an official statement on the matter so far. PNSC sources maintained that all necessary protocols were followed and the transit was conducted smoothly.
