White House confirms Trump reviewed Iran proposal in National Security meeting

The White House has confirmed that US President Donald Trump held a key meeting with his national security team earlier in the day to discuss a new proposal put forward by Iran. The development comes amid ongoing tensions and diplomatic efforts related to regional stability and maritime security.

In this regard, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that the meeting included consultations on Iran’s reported proposal concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

She noted that while discussions had taken place, it would be premature to characterize the proposal as being formally considered.

“I would not say that it is under active consideration,” the spokesperson said. “It can only be confirmed that a discussion took place this morning. At this stage, I would prefer not to go into further details.”

Leavitt focused on that any additional information would be shared directly by President Trump at an appropriate time. She clarified that she was not in a position to express support or opposition to the Iranian proposal during the briefing.

The spokesperson further reiterated that President Trump’s approach toward Iran remains guided by clearly defined “red lines.” She stressed that the administration’s foremost priority continues to be the safety and security of the United States and its citizens.

Iran has proposed that the United States lift its naval blockade as a preliminary step, while deferring nuclear negotiations to a later stage. In return, Tehran has indicated its willingness to engage in ceasefire talks.

The proposal is seen as part of broader efforts to ease tensions in the region, particularly around the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments.
