US President cancels Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Pakistan, US media reports

The United States President Donald Trump has cancelled the mediation tour to Pakistan of Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as per the official report of US media.

The sudden cancellation comes at a critical time when regional diplomatic engagements are intensifying, particularly concerning tensions involving Iran.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has departed Islamabad following a series of high-level discussions. During his visit, he engaged with Pakistani leadership to address regional stability and acknowledged Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington. Diplomatic sources indicate that Pakistan’s mediation efforts have been positively received, positioning the country as a key intermediary in de-escalation initiatives.

The evolving situation is further shaped by a temporary ceasefire extension reportedly approved by President Trump. The extension was granted following a request by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, aimed at allowing more time for diplomatic negotiations.

The cancellation of the US delegation’s visit, however, raises questions about the immediate future of bilateral engagements between Washington and Islamabad. Despite this, diplomatic channels remain open, and officials from both sides are expected to continue consultations through alternative means.
