Heavy Rains Kill 25, Injure 77 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: Heavy rains since March 25 have killed 25 people and injured 77 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said in its latest report.

Most victims died when roofs and walls collapsed. The dead include 18 children, two men, and five women. The injured include 33 men, nine women, and 35 children.

The PDMA said rains damaged 88 houses. Of these, 71 suffered partial damage and 17 were completely destroyed.

The incidents occurred across multiple districts, including Bannu, Abbottabad, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, Kurram, Hangu, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Upper Dir, Battagram, North Waziristan, and Tank.

Rescue teams, district administrations, and emergency services continue relief operations. Authorities are providing assistance to affected families and coordinating response efforts.

The PDMA chief directed local officials to deliver immediate relief supplies and ensure prompt financial compensation for the families of the deceased.

Rainfall continues intermittently across the province. The Met Office has forecast more rain between April 1 and April 4.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from vulnerable tourist areas, and follow official advisories.

The PDMA said its emergency operations center remains fully active. It advised citizens to call helpline 1700 for information or assistance related to weather conditions or emergencies.
