Rain and Snow Bring Winter Back to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: Intermittent rain and snowfall in upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past week have brought back cold weather across the province, officials said.

Rain continued in Peshawar and surrounding areas since early morning on Wednesday, lowering temperatures.

Snowfall persisted on higher mountains in Upper and Lower Chitral. Several areas in Upper Chitral remained under snow cover. Snow also fell in Dir Upper, Kalam, Swat, Shangla, and other districts.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said weather would remain partly cloudy to overcast in most districts. It forecast cold conditions in upper parts of the province.

The department predicted rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall over mountains, in Chitral, Dir Upper and Lower, Malakand, Buner, Swat, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai-Palas, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, and Torghar.

It also forecast rain in Haripur, Bajaur, Mohmand, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Peshawar, Khyber, Bannu, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Kurram, and Orakzai.

Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and North and South Waziristan may receive intermittent rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Snowfall is likely on higher elevations.

The department warned of heavy downpours and hailstorms at isolated places.

On Tuesday, Peshawar recorded 2 mm of rain. Chitral recorded 4 mm, Timergara 5 mm, Dir 8 mm, Kalam 13 mm, Drosh 3 mm, and Saidu Sharif 3 mm. Dera recorded 4 mm, Malam Jabba 6 mm, Parachinar 34 mm, Landi Kotal 10 mm, and Bannu 4 mm.

Temperatures are gradually falling due to ongoing rain and snowfall.
