LONDON: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the custodians of the Laws of Cricket, has issued its position on the controversial run-out of Pakistan batter Salman Ali Agha during the second ODI against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
In the match, Salman Ali Agha was given out in a disputed manner, sparking widespread debate among fans and cricket experts.
In its statement, the MCC clarified that according to the Laws of the game, Salman Ali Agha was clearly out, as he was out of his crease while the ball was still in play.
The MCC further explained that no batter should attempt to handle or pick up the ball without the permission of the fielding side.
The MCC also stated that in the event of a collision between players, the ball does not automatically become dead, so play continues.
While the “Spirit of Cricket” could have allowed Bangladesh to withdraw their appeal, under the strict Laws of Cricket, the on-field umpires had no option but to rule Salman Ali Agha out.
