Major Blow to BLA as Key Commander Linked to Jaffar Express Attack Killed in Karachi

KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) dealt a major blow to the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) after killing a key commander in an operation in Shah Latif Town, Malir.

Officials said the raid took place on February 17. It followed intelligence obtained from previously arrested militants.

CTD teams surrounded a suspected hideout. A heavy gun battle followed. Four highly wanted militants were killed.

Authorities identified three of the dead at the scene. They later confirmed the fourth as Sohail Baloch, also known as Gark, a senior commander of the BLA’s Al-Fateh Squad.

Officials described him as a high-value target. They linked him to a network referred to as Fitna al-Hindustan.

He had earlier been associated with the Baloch Liberation Front. He joined the BLA in 2022 and rose to a key command role.

CTD said he planned and coordinated multiple attacks. He arranged weapons and logistics for militant operations.

Investigators linked him to the killing of Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Zakir Baloch in Khuzdar. They also held him responsible for the deaths of more than 50 security personnel and civilians in separate attacks.

Officials said he commanded the Al-Fateh Squad in the Bolan area. He maintained direct contact with Rahman Gul, Mullah Amin, and Dr. Makho.
