ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a nationwide alert for possible heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds from March 17 to 25.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergency Operation Center, a new system of western winds is expected to affect northern and western regions starting March 17.
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for upper and central Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Lahore. Some areas may also experience hail.
In southern Punjab, rain is expected in Multan, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may see intermittent rain with thunderstorms and strong winds during the period.
In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, rainfall with thunderstorms is expected, with snowfall possible in hilly areas.
Balochistan may experience intermittent storms, strong winds, and rain from March 17 to 23.
Overall, Sindh is expected to remain mostly dry, although scattered rain may occur in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Karachi, and Hyderabad.
The NDMA has instructed all provincial and district authorities to remain alert and prepare for possible weather-related emergencies. Citizens have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms and strong winds and to avoid nonessential travel.
