ISLAMABAD: The services of the Federal Constabulary are to be utilised to help maintain peace and stability in Balochistan.
The decision was taken during a high-level law and order meeting in Islamabad. The meeting was co-chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.
It was decided that around 3,000 personnel, comprising two wings of the Federal Constabulary, will be deployed in the first phase.
Senior officials from federal and provincial institutions attended the meeting. Detailed briefings were given on the security situation in Balochistan, the repatriation of Afghan refugees, hawala and hundi networks, extortion, and anti-smuggling efforts.
Officials from the National Database and Registration Authority, the Federal Investigation Agency, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, and the Federal Constabulary also presented briefings on their respective areas.
It was also decided that the Federal Investigation Agency will be further strengthened in Balochistan. All vacant posts are to be filled, with priority to local recruitment.
Federal and provincial authorities also agreed to improve monitoring of anti-state activity on social media. Action against individuals involved in what was described as baseless propaganda against the state is to be intensified.
The federal government assured full cooperation with the Balochistan government to maintain stability in the province.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said all possible support would be provided to enhance the professional capacity of the Balochistan Police.
He said the federal government was fully aware of the security challenges in Balochistan and would continue assistance for the restoration of peace.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said terrorism was being confronted with full resolve.
It was said that the fight against terrorism was not only the responsibility of security forces but a collective effort of the entire nation.

Bugti also said the government remained committed to ensuring the writ of the state. No highway in Balochistan was now being blocked in the name of protests, he added.
The chief minister appreciated the federal government’s support for the restoration of peace, saying terrorism would be defeated through national unity.
